Enchanted Forest is New Mexico’s premier XC Ski area. Located just 3 miles east of Red River, New Mexico on the Carson National Forest, this area has 33km of groomed trails. You can ski classic or freestyle. The trails are groomed wide with set track on one side. Enjoy the peaceful environment as you spend the day gliding amongst the trees and wildlife. There is also 15KM of marked snowshoe trails that wind through the area in case you feel like a change of pace late in the day. The area also offers a smaller dog friendly trail system. Lessons and rentals are available. Check the website at www.enchantedforestxc.com for all the details. With plenty of trails of varying difficulty and whimsical trail names like Peter Pan, Jabberwocky, and Abracadabra, there is plenty of fun for skiers of all ages and abilities. Don’t be surprised if you get hooked on the reasonable prices and luxurious trail grooming. But, if you only make it up to the area once, don’t miss the just deserts eat-n-ski held in February…ski for food….hmmm…I could get used to that!
Getting There:
From Taos: North 22 miles on NM522 to Questa. Turn east on NM38 13 miles to Red River, head east on NM38 toward Eagle Nest. After 3 miles you will see a large sign for the area. Turn right 200 feet past sign just past the milepost 16 sign on to snow packed road (4x4 required). If you do not have 4x4, you can ski this short section of road to the hut.
